Long Description :
Duskyclaw is a thick-furred tom of good size. His pelt is a streaky grey, and his paws are white. His muzzle is also white, and there is a bib of white upon his chest. Duskyclaw^s eyes are yellow, and he has an unusual marking - a broken, creamy tan stripe - that runs from his nose-tip and crosses the right side of his face. Duskyclaw is thick-boned and well muscled. He is also a hearty eater, and these three factors are great contributors to his bulky appearance. His large paws aid him in swimming, which he excels at, and his thick, long-haired, pelt keeps him from becoming thoroughly soaked - though it can become rather heavy if Duskyclaw spends too much time in the water.

Personality
Though serious in work, training, and his faith in StarClan, Duskyclaw is a fairly good-humored cat as well as being good-natured, and he is also quite slow-tempered. He holds his own personal beliefs quite firmly, but does not advertise these beliefs, and is sure to hold his tongue when under orders. Duskyclaw is naturally quiet, placid, and compliant, and he has a tendency to preoccupy himself by pondering various subjects for long periods of time, especially when hunting or resting alone.
He is clumsy and slightly absent-minded. Outwardly, he often appears slow-witted or dull-witted, and though there are many cats with greater minds than Duskyclaw, he is very adept at memorizing schedules or orders given to him. Duskyclaw is not disagreeable by nature, but he does not get along well with his Clanmate, Thistlefur. |

Duskyclaw was born in Newleaf, along with two others: Tealkit, a she-kit and Coonkit, a dark brown tom-kit. The kits' mother was a brown tabby she-cat named Dappledthroat; their father, Slatepelt, a long-haired, slate-grey tom, was slain when a patrol he was leading was ambushed along the WindClan border before the kits were born. (This was, of course, during the time of the Great War.)
The three siblings were quite close throughout their kithood and subsequent apprenticeship, and a certain degree of playful and good-natured rivalry existed especially between Duskypaw and Coonpaw. Duskypaw, however, who was the largest of the litter, also happened to be the most grave and serious-minded about his training, for Coonpaw, though energetic and ambitious in competition, also bore an easily distracted and slightly impatient side. And Tealpaw, the daydreamer of the litter, was an excellent listener but unfocused in her training. Though his siblings never complained or bore any grudge against him, loyal Duskypaw felt a vague guilt when he was awarded his warrior name a full moon earlier than his siblings. When Duskyclaw was fifteen moons of age, a greencough epidemic swept through the RiverClan camp, taking the life of his sister, Tealnose, and the life of his mother, as well as the lives of every kit in her new litter - Duskyclaw's young step-siblings. Duskyclaw was most troubled and disturbed by the loss of the kits, who had not yet recieved their names. Oddly, however, his faith in StarClan seemed only to deepen after this episode. Five moons after the epidemic of greencough, a fierce battle took place between RiverCland and ShadowClan. Duskyclaw was fighting alongside Coontail, when his brother - in a bold and particularly stupid maneuver - threw himself into battle with a huge ShadowClan warrior, against whom he was clearly outmatched. Coontail was killed in moments. Duskyclaw's firm belief in StarClan, along with his highly devoted work ethic (both of which keep his mind well-occupied) helped him to accept the death of his brother and close friend. When Ashstar became the leader of RiverClan, Duskyclaw was greatly honored to become the new deputy. He served devotedly, but the first several moons of Duskyclaw's career as deputy were marred by several glaring mistakes, the most noteworthy of which was a bid for the Sunningrocks, located in ThunderClan territory. A RiverClan patrol, headed by Duskyclaw, encountered a ThunderClan patrol at this location, and a fight ensued. In this fight, Duskyclaw battled the ThunderClan deputy, Ashfur, whose claws gouged across his left eye, permanently blinding him in that eye. The wounds Duskyclaw inflicted upon Ashfur led to her eventual death from infection. In a separate incident, Duskyclaw and another RiverClan warrior, Thistlefur, met a loner in RiverClan territory while giving their new apprentices, Sliverpaw and Shadedpaw, a tour of the borders. Though tensions were high between ThunderClan and RiverClan at that time, Duskyclaw did not see the strange she-cat, who introduced herself as 'Fer-Verde' as a spy or threat, and agreed to bring the loner to RiverClan camp to see Ashstar. Thistlefur and Shadedpaw both disagreed heartily, and Duskyclaw found himself holding a very unpopular position. The loner, who turned out to be a former WindClan cat, was taken in by the Clan, and, moons later, was accepted into RiverClan and renamed Newheart. Duskyclaw has strived to learn from mistakes such as the Sunningrocks battle and 'Fer-Verde' incident. He has also had several run-ins with his Clanmate, Thistlefur, and, as neither cat is on good terms with the other, Duskyclaw generally does his best to avoid the tabby tom. |
