Appearance

Short Description :
A small brown furred she-cat with green eyes
Long Description :
Maria Isabel was a small chocolate-brown she-cat of common build. Her light green eyes were somewhat slanted, and nearly always narrowed in calculation.
Personality

Quick-witted, self-interested, and resourceful, Maria Isabel made the best of whatever life threw at her, and was adept at twisting situations to her advantage. The she-cat did her utmost to avoid anything that did not benefit her own self. However, the she-cat had made what she thought of as a few 'slip-ups' in her life: namely, falling in love and bearing kits. She resented herself for making such a foolish, impractical error, but once it was done and her heart was no longer hers, Maria Isabel planned to do what she had always done: making it work.

Full History :
In a human's backyard in Whitehart, Maria Isabel was born to the semi-feral she-cat, Anita, along with her brother Pablo and her sister Esmeralda. When Pablo ventured off in search of their sire, Maria Isabel felt that it was time she too would escape her mother’s coddling clutches, and she left Whitehart and her childhood home altogether.

Though she-cat had lived her life in a bubble of safety and ignorance, Maria Isabel had always been a clever, adaptable cat. She taught herself how to survive on her own through trial and error, and unless she saw an opportunity to manipulate another cat for her own gain, she kept to herself.

That is, she did, until the night of her first thunderstorm. Spooked by the flashing lights and booming that came from the dark sky, Maria Isabel ran in panic. By the time the storm had passed, Maria Isabel was soaked, sneezing, had scraped the skin off her paws, and was utterly lost. It was not long before Maria Isabel was noticed by the domestic tom, Rigel. He saw that she was in trouble, and offered to bring her inside his housefolk’s nest. Maria Isabel agreed; she could go nowhere else on her own, and recognized that Rigel represented an opportunity of free food, warmth, and rest.

Rigel belonged to a kind human astronomer, and Maria Isabel was accepted into the home without a second thought. While Maria Isabel was nursed back to health, Rigel watched over her, sometimes simply sitting by her side, or else rambling on about the star constellations and their related mythology stories. At first, Maria Isabel only put on a polite face; her real interest lay in staying on his human's good side so that she may soak in the luxuries of warm blankets and daily food, while she waited for the day when she was healthy and could escape unnoticed, back to freedom. But Maria Isabel gradually came to enjoy Rigel’s presence, and his intriguing, if impractical, notions of myriads of worlds beyond this one. Too late, she realized that she had fallen in love, and was heavy with his kits. Though she was shocked and horrified at her own folly -- how could she be a mother when her first priority needed to be her own self?! -- Maria Isabel projected a calmness she did not feel when she announced the news to Rigel. The tom was delighted, but he knew Maria Isabel well enough by now to know that something was bothering her. Mistaking her emotions, he tried to reassure Maria Isabel that he would not let anything bad happen to her-- she and their kits would be safe.

On the Moon of Ill Winds (2008), she gave birth to three kits, two tom-kits named Alnilam and Alnitak, and a she-kit, Mintaka. As Maria Isabel curled around her children for the first time, even her reluctant heart melted completely with love. But then, six weeks later, came the betrayal; Rigel's owner had decided she couldn't handle five cats, and tried to take the kits from Maria Isabel. The mother fought back and managed to flee, but with only two of her kits; Alnilam had been captured and had to be left behind.

After departing from Rigel and his owner, Maria Isabel vowed to never make the mistake of loving a tom again, and raised her kits whilst roaming the streets. She ensured that neither she nor her remaining kits ever saw Rigel again.

Maria Isabel was on an outing with her offspring one day in the Moon of Lion's Glory (2008) when she was fatally shot by a human.
