Chronic Cough
Complaint: Chronic Cough
Human Equivalent: Astma
Description: A coughing condition that might be mistake for the various other coughs, Chronic Cough is difficult to cure and might last for the rest of the life of the cat in question.

Chronic Cough is characterized primarily by Difficulty Breathing and Coughing. The severity of the symptoms will fluctuate, sometimes even going into full remission for periods, as outside factors are added and removed.
Duration: Mild: Chronic, with approximately 1 'attack' per quarter moon.
Moderate: Chronic, with approximately 3 'attacks' per quarter moon.
Severe: Chronic, with 'attacks' on a near daily basis.
Treatment: Mild:
  • Ensure that the cat has access to constant fresh air to increase and ease breathing. Preferably in a warm, sunny place.
  • Treat both the cough and breathing difficulty with appropriate herbs. Herbs might also be offered for any symptoms that pop up as a result of the constant coughing (such as sore throat or weakness)
  • Encourage the cat to resume activity once ease of breathing is restored, as resting overlong will result in loss of condition and continued (potentially more frequent) attacks.
Moderate: As per mild case instructions
Severe: As per mild case instructions
Residual Effects: Mild: Difficulty breathing for a day following an 'attack'.
Moderate: Difficulty breathing for a day following an 'attack'.
Severe: Difficulty breathing between 'attacks'.
Possible Complications: Mild: Over time a cat might develop permanent and constant breathing difficulty as the lungs become damaged by the infection.
Moderate: As per mild complications
Severe: As per mild complications
Notes: Cats who had other coughs when young are Prone to it.
Cats who have family members with this condition are Prone to it.
This condition is Chronic, and is ongoing through the life of any infected.
This condition possess variable severity within a single case depending on outside factors.
This condition can be fatal if severe attacks are not treated quickly.
