Dandelion
Dandelion.gif Cat Given Name: Dandelion
Common Name: Dandelion
Other Name(s):
Description: Dandelion leaves all grow from a central rosette around the root. These leaves are long (5–25 cm, occasionally longer) and generally lobed. The flower heads grow on hollow stems that exude a milky sap when broken. Each root can give rise to multiple flowers. The heads of these flowers range in color from yellow to orange. When the flowers go to seed they do so via a parachute-like fluffy down.
Properties: Dandelion leaves are diuretic, detoxifying, and serve to improve both appetite and lactation. Dandelion roots are also diuretic and detoxifying in addition to being able to stimulate appetite and reduce inflammation. Dandelion is wonderfully mild, easy to find, and safe to give to the very young, very old, and nursing queens.
