Description: A reddish brown colored plant with a 3 foot (1 meter) high stalk with smooth leaves that have curled and wavy edges. The stalk produces clusters of rusty colored flowers with the largest found at the very top. Dock leaves have an extremely bitter flavor.

Yellow dock should be used with caution and care, for large amounts can be dangerous and cause death.

Properties: Yellow dock is able to bring balance to the bowel system, and in accordance is able to be used in many complaints of the bowel. It is also useful in treating infection of the urinary system, though used to excess it may bring stones into the kidney. Additionally, it might be applied as a poultice to aid in the healing of a cat with complaints of the skin.

How to Collect : Pluck the freshest, greenest leaves from the stem, as closely as possible. Care should be taken to select only those that are whole and untouched by insects.
How to Preserve : The leaves should be laid in full sun to dry.
How to Store : Store in loose piles in a cool, dry place.

How to Collect : The roots should be dug carefully. Take care not to keep any that are overly soft or at all worm-eaten.
How to Preserve : The roots should be washed, then laid in full sun until they are completely dried.
