Clan-OOC StarClan as God

From Children of StarClan

Navigation: Index - Clan Cats

I have often received questions that reflect on the fact that CoSC's StarClan is not only prone to disagreement amongst it self, but highly fallible. This little essay is a few of my thoughts on StarClan and their place in the world.

Specifically this is to address StarClan as God, because while StarClan serves as the deity in this world it's not really possible to draw a direct correlation between them and the Christian God that most players attempt to compare them to. StarClan is not the Christian God. They're not all-knowing. They're not all-powerful.

StarClan is better compared to something akin to the Greek Pantheon. Each individual cat holds sway over a tiny part of the heavens. They form alliances and enemies, they maintain their old bonds to the earthly world. They support one another, conflict with one another. StarClan is essentially a functional set of four independent clans that, due to the way they must work to protect their earthly counterparts, work together with more freedom than the earthly clans.

In short... StarClan is not God. StarClan is a collection of spirits that lack the ability to physically effect the world outside of very specific circumstances. They are not the highest power, nor are they the only power. Other Species and other groups have their own demi-gods. Something greater, something older, lies at the root of spirituality that all of these divine spirits must pay homage to. That thing is what creates the rules that StarClan must live within.
