From the Moon of First Fishing (2007) to the Moon of Cheetah's Flight (2007), a strange disease took countless forest cats' lives. No matter how hard they tried, the medicine cats were not able to figure out how to heal their patients. After seven moons of horror, the epidemics finally died down, but clan ranks were seriously depleted.

Illness Phases

  • Exposure: Cat is exposed to heartworm via a mosquito bite.
  • Phase 1: Cat begins to feel ill. Sluggishness, fever, coughing and difficulty breathing are most common.
  • Phase 2: Cat grows thin, continuing to experience general ill-health.
  • Phase 3: Cat might collapse or suffer convulsions (sometimes both).
  • Death: Cats who have reached phase three will either die immediately or sink into a coma and die shortly thereafter.
All cats contracting Killingcough and dying during the plot have already reached the Exposure stage; the sickness has an incubation stage of six months to one year.
