Whitecough
 
Complaint: Whitecough
 
Human Equivalent: Mild Upper Respiratory Infection, Mild "Cat Flu"
 
Description: Whitecough is a somewhat common illness, but known for its ability to evolve into more dangerous infections such as Greencough. Symptoms can include the runny eyes, Sneezing, Dry Coughing, Congestion, and/or Mild Fever.
 
Duration: Mild: 2-4 days following treatment, if caught very early
Moderate: 3-5 days following the start of treatment
Severe: 4-7 days following the start of treatment if caught late
 
Treatment: Mild:
  • Ensure the cat drinks plenty, and continues to eat well. If the patient looses appetite it is advisable to switch to treatments oriented for Greencough.
  • If the eyes run due to irritation they should be flushed clean with fresh water or willow water. A Medicine Cat should never lick the ick away or permit another cat do so due to high risk of infection through contact with the substance.
  • Sneezing, Coughing and/or Congestion should be treated with herbs as appropriate.
  • Fevers and any related chills should be tended appropriately.
  • All treatments should be continued while symptoms last.
Moderate: As per mild case instructions
Severe: As per mild case instructions
 
Residual Effects: Mild: Weakness and Poor condition for approximately 3 days.
Moderate: Weakness and Poor condition for approximately a quarter moon.
Temporary predisposition for follow-up respiratory problems for approximately half moon.
Severe: Weakness and Poor condition for approximately a half moon.
Temporary predisposition for follow-up respiratory problems for approximately 1 moon.
 
Possible Complications: Mild: None
Moderate: None
Severe: In the very young or very old additional infections are likely.
 
Notes: This ailment is contagious via contact with the sick cat.
This ailment is sometimes fatal to the young and old.
