Cloudwatcher was very close to his dear sister and was each others best friends. He was grief stricken when she died.

He wasn't very close with his mother but was still grief stricken when she died.

He wasn't very close with his father, much like he was with his mother, but was still grief stricken (like the other deaths in his family) when he died.
