Appearance

Short Description :
A small light brown tabby she-cat without the ability to speak
Long Description :
Small, lithe, and fast on her feet, at first glance, Silentwave fits in easily with her Clanmates. Her pelt is a yellow-gold color with splashes of light brown, as if shadows litter her fur. Large amber eyes are great conveyors of her feelings and desires, something she has perfected over the moons. Her body, too, is graceful and willowy, each movement seeming to share a new thought or idea. A smile is often concealed in the she-cat’s eyes, and unless she is truly worried, that spark never leaves. She has an aura of innocence about her, although she has seen and done no less (and no more) than the average warrior. While she is easily strong enough and fast enough to hold her own in battle, many underestimate her due to her small size. Silentwave’s somewhat small paws make almost no sound as she glides over the earth, but she does not like this quality of herself. The one she likes even less, however, is the one that led her to show her emotions so easily – no matter how hard she tries, Silentwave can make no sound. She cannot speak, and even her purrs come only on occasion and with much effort – hence her name.
Personality

Loyal and caring, Silentwave would make an excellent medicine cat with her natural ability to cheer others up and generally make the best of most situations. She is quite emotional and finds it hard to mask these feelings, even when it would be to her advantage to do so. She does not hates of pity of any kind and does not she understand cowardice, although she imagines that it would be a hard quality to live with. Stubborn as a mule, it is hard to get Silentwave to change her opinion about something, or to change her mind about doing something once she has decided to follow through with it. She does not like to surrender, although would be willing to do so for the sake of loved ones. No stranger to pain, neither is Silentwave rude or bitter – she is, instead, quite loyal to her Clan and would do anything for them. Always a friendly cat, she does not like to fight as much as some, although she has a natural affinity for it. Instead, she does it carefully, making sure never to wound someone beyond repair – let alone kill – unless all other options have been entirely demolished. Despite this, she is clever and quick-thinking, good at figuring out rather creative ways to defeat her opponents. Despite her kindness, which some would see as weak, Silentwave is a proud, independent cat, hating to accept defeat. She is almost always optimistic and easily stands up for what she believes in, though generally not in an offensive way. Rather mischievous as well, she loved playing jokes and teasing her elders when she was a kit – something she hasn’t quite gotten over.
History

Key Dates
Full History :
Greensands and Ravenstripe of WindClan, were two quite well-respected warriors who had been mates for some moons already, although never had a kit. Both were getting on in years, heading rapidly for seniorwarriorship, and then the simple, contented life of an elder. Because of this, both were overjoyed to find that Ravenstripe was pregnant – for though she was one of the older she-cats of the Clan, she had never been a mother. Still, it was hard to give up a lifetime of habbit, and she moved into the Nursery rather later than most queens, not as suited to the relatively lazy life of a pregnant mother as one might think.

Shortly, two kittens had been born; two she-cats, called Rushingkit and Wavekit by their proud parents. They acted as normal kits could be, and while Rushingkit was a certified chatterbox, always having a comment to make and the words to say it, Wavekit never uttered a word – nor any other sound, for that matter. Understandably, her parents were worried. Wavekit showed no signs of any other ‘problems’, and so they assumed – with good reason – that her unexplained silence could not come from sadness or any emotional issues. After requesting that Wavekit say something to her and witnessing the small kit open and close her mouth to no effect, the healer apologetically pronounced her mute.

While Ravenstripe was a good mother and a kind she-cat all around, she was something of a perfectionist, and couldn’t abide ‘flaws’ – not even when said ‘flaw’ didn’t seem to affect her daughter much. While she still loved Wavekit, she favored Rushingkit noticeably more, and no one was oblivious to this. For reasons unknown to her, Wavekit did not become an apprentice with her sister. While Doublestar, perhaps out of pity, named her Wavepaw, the young she-cat was forced to move into the elders' den, purely because she was incapable of speech. Now convinced that her mother hated her, and more than a little jealous of her sister, Wavepaw became bitter and withdrawn.

While Wavepaw tried her best not to reveal these feelings within earshot of any of her family, she couldn’t always help it. She cursed her muteness, for although she was slowly getting better at communicating with others, she would never be a chatterbox. Or be able to be a chatterbox. Wavepaw was now the youngest ‘elder’ the Clan had ever seen, and grew close to an old, sharp-tongued tom by the name of Jaggedclaw. As the two grew closer Jaggedclaw became something of a mentor to her, teaching her what he could recall of hunting and fighting - although her ‘training’ was understandably patchy. He also figured out simple sign language that she could use to convey her feelings, although he agreed that she would never manage to be a vocal cat. Wavepaw also worked on becoming someone who expressed her emotions easily, as circumstances dicated she must.

Despite her muteness, Wavepaw and Rushingpaw were still as close as ever, although as Rushingpaw now had a crush on her mentor – who was, admittedly, much closer in age to her than the average mentor – they spent less time together; Rushingpaw always wanted to go out and train. Silently - always silently - Wavepaw watched what, in a different time and a different place, would have been her denmates progress into sleek-furred, adept warriors. At ten moons, she was quiet and solemn, while her cheerful and boisterous sister was deemed ready for her warrior name. From the shadows, Wavepaw watched, resigned to being known as Wavepaw for the remainder of her life.

However, she was once again surprised, although at the same time, she had expected it. Rushingpaw became Rushingwind, and Wavepaw became Silentwave – a respectible enough name, but yet another reminder of how she could never quite fit in with her Clan. Moons passed, with Silentwave becoming more and more adept with Jaggedclaw’s sign language, able to communicate more and more. Meanwhile, Rushingwind’s crush turned swiftly into infatuation, an then love – and Silentwave watched as her sister requested that her old mentor become her mate. The tom declined, and Rushingwind fell into deep depression.

Unfortunately, the sisters’ parents had long since departed for StarClan – not without moderate sadness from their kits, but as it didn’t come as a shock, neither daughter was as crushed as she might have been. Besides, Silentwave would never forgive her mother for not supporting her as much as she might have during her kithood, so that, too, took the edge off her grief. On the other hand, it also meant that Silentwave didn’t really have anyone to go to as far as her sister was concerned. She didn’t have many real friends, for she saw pity in the eyes of many of her Clanmates as they looked at her, and that she could not – cannot – abide. Jaggedclaw became her main confident, for she couldn’t confide in Rushingwind about Rushingwind’s condition.

It was in Silentwave’s 20th moon that tragedy struck once again. It was a hunting accident that claimed her; a patrol had found her wandering aimlessly by the gorge, and picked her up. It was a group of Rushingwind’s old friends that found her, and in trying to cheer her up, they caused her to back up - right over the cliff, and into the river below. Silentwave mourned desperately, now clinging to Jaggedclaw for all she was worth. He was now the only cat she really trusted, and she could not bear to loose another friend. But he was an elder; he had been old even when she first entered the elder’s den, and was now loosing both sight and hearing, though his mind and tongue were as sharp as ever.

Perhaps a moon after Rushingwind’s death – not long ago at all – Jaggedclaw, died in his sleep, passing from dreamland and into the paws of his waiting ancestors. For the second time in as many moons, Silentwave had the death of one of her best friends on her hands – only in this case, it was her only best friend that she had to watch buried. In the moons since, Silentwave has mostly healed from her grief, although the holes in her heart that each of her friends left will never heal completely. Still, she is not as bitter as most would be in similar circumstances, and is mostly loyal to her Clan. On the other hand, she is not outgoing – perhaps less so than she was before the deaths of Jaggedclaw and Rushingwind – and now possesses a slight jealousy of apprentices and really anyone living a relatively normal life.
