Appearance   Short Description : A skinny black bi-color tom with a scar on his shoulder Long Description : Dustwing is a bushy black and white tom with pale green eyes. It looks as if Dustwing was a black cat that accidentally strolled through some white paint. Most of his upper half is black, leaving his legs, chest, and part of his face white. The tom is a bit skinny and undersized, but this is not noticeable under his large pelt. Part of Dustwing’s left ear is torn off and he has a few scars on his shoulders.

Personality     The world can often be a dark place. Cat against cat, clan against clan. Strangers can never be trusted. Sometimes, even members of your own clan can turn against you. Your guard must always be up. It’s up to you to protect yourself. As Dustwing has gotten older, the tom-cat has leaned toward the side of distrustfulness. It takes more than a few sweet words to lower his barrier. If the black-and-white cat feels threatened, instead of letting himself get hurt, Dustwing would rather hurt first. The tom-cat tries not to speak when he has nothing to say. The last thing he would want, is to say something and be ridiculed for it. Dustwing is slow to trust. Once he has built a relationship with another cat, even then he sometimes has trouble letting his barrier down. He has little interest in small talk and enjoys spending time alone. But every cat needs affection, and that includes Dustwing. Deep down the tom loves his clan and trusts its leader. He is loyal not to individual members, but to what is best for Thunderclan. Dustwing is often willing to risk too much for his clan, disregarding the consequences to focus on the gain.

The odds of his survival were small. Yellowheart did all she could for her son, and to the clan’s surprise, Dustkit survived his first few moons. By the time green-leaf came along, Dustpaw had been apprenticed with his sister Brightpaw. [6 – 11 moons] Trekking long distances and chasing prey did not come easily to Dustpaw. The apprentice had to work hard, but eventually he outgrew his reputation as a small and weak kit. Dustpaw was announced a warrior, one moon after Bloodstar took a life from Ashstar. Dustwing was proud of his warrior status, and soon became over-bearing and cocky, much to his sister's disdain. [19 moons] When Brightfur confided to him she was expecting kits, Dustwing demanded to know who the father was. His sister refused, telling the young warrior that it was none of his business. Dustwing was stung brutally. Their argument escalated until they had caught the attention of everyone in the camp. The clan’s reaction was as expected. Most of the warriors and elders were shocked that Dustwing would have intruded on his sister’s privacy the way he did. Some she-cats came to stick up for Brightfur scolding Dustwing for his ignorance. Roseclaw, the deputy at the time, had no problem voicing her opinion. Bloodstar was furious that not only did Dustwing break the warrior’s code, but had made such a public event of it. The leader reprimanded the warrior in front of the whole clan. Dustwing withdrew inside his newly created shell and became less social, avoiding Brightfur altogether. Brightfur died five weeks later, having her single stillborn kit. The pain that the black-and-white tom experienced that day, broke his spirit. Dustwing regretted everything he had said to her, and his behavior afterwards. Since then, he has vowed never to get so close to another cat again, lest his heart be torn open twice. [20 – 40 moons] As time passed, Dustwing’s pain healed and he hardly ever dwelled on the memory of his sister. Though his bitter way of life had become more than a habit. When Killingcough broke into an epidemic, Dustwing was petrified of catching the mysterious disease. He was witness to eight deaths including his mother, but never contracted heartworm himself. During the time that Sair Fen roamed free the forest, Dustwing not once crossed his path. However, if he had, Dustwing would have killed the fisher, or more likely, died trying. [41 moons] Dustwing bore witness with disgust as Swiftsparrow was re-named Lostgaze and exiled from the clan. The tom disliked anything that had potential to hurt the clan and Swiftsparrow keeping secrets was no good. Dustwing disagreed with Bloodstar’s choice of banishment and instead wanted the she-cat to be executed. The idea of exile did not sit well with the tom. Dustwing had his chance at killing the she-cat while on hunting patrol by the east clearing. The black and white warrior caught Lostgaze spilling clan secrets to a rogue. Outraged the tom had hurled himself at the two in a mismatched battle. Luckily, his patrol of Tigerpaw and Flurryail came just in time. Lostgaze managed to escape the battle and flee, followed shortly by the rouge. [DEATH] He was slain on the 24th day of the Moon of Lion's Glory (2008) by the Fox that hunted ThunderClan.
