Goldclaw's claws were indeed pale gold, but her name comes from her pelt, a golden cream ticked with red. White fur covered all her trim body except her neck, back, and tail. She had small paws and wide, round amber eyes.

Goldclaw was secretly pleased when Redtail announced his passionate love for her; he'd been her friend ever since she'd comforted him as an apprentice after his parents had died protecting her in one of the many battles of the Great War. Together they had a son with russet fur in the Moon of Lion's Glory (2006), when Redtail was 22 moons and Goldclaw was 28. Ten moons later, in the Moon of Running Prey (2007), their next kit, a she-kit named Honeykit, was born.
Goldclaw hadn't been expecting the enormous amounts of time Redtail spent with his kits. He played, told stories, and shared tongues with them not only when they're kits, but apprentices and warriors, too. Goldclaw had to remind him of his warrior duties; she added, for good measure, that he'd be a poor example if he neglected his duties. While glad that he so obviously loved his family, Goldclaw worried that he didn't give their children enough space. Both parents had the privilege of seeing their kits become adults in peacetime, but dangers were still rampant. When their son was hit and killed by a Monster, Redtail all but fell apart. Goldclaw had to order him to snap out of his grief-stricken daze. Their troubles weren't over. The winter of 2008-2009 was the worst any-cat could remember, and bitter cold brought with it hunger and disease just when Goldclaw and Redtail were considering retirement. First Goldclaw, then Redtail and Honeyflower, fell prey to Blackcough. |
