Full History :
Redkit, named for his red fur, was born while the Great War still waged. As an apprentice, he resented Goldclaw for surviving the battle which killed his parents; to his reasoning, his parents wouldn't have died that day had they not had to protect her. But the older cat comforted the grieving apprentice and took him under her wing. Slowly, Redpaw warmed to her, and by the time he'd been made a warrior as Redtail, they'd become friends. Redtail was soon quite enamored with his friend. When he told her so, Goldclaw smiled and offhandedly revealed that she'd been thinking of having kits, but hadn't decided 'til now who the father would be.
By this time, the Great War had ended, for which the couple were thankful, as they'd rather raise kits in peacetime. In the Moon of Lion's Glory (2006), when Redtail was 22 moons and Goldclaw was 28, their russet-furred tom-kit was born. After he'd been apprenticed, they tried for another litter, and in the Moon of Running Prey (2007), their daughter Honeykit was born. Redtail adored his children. He spent more time with them—sharing tongues, storytelling, playing—than what was usual for fathers in the clans. His frequent displays of affection were as genuine as they were spontaneous. He was devastated when his son was killed by a Monster. The warrior went about in a daze until Goldclaw admonished him, ordering him to "snap out of it"; not only did she and their remaining kit, now Honeyflower, need him, but so did ThunderClan. With the help of his mate and daughter, Redtail pulled through. Redtail and Goldclaw were thinking of retiring together when the coldest winter in memory came upon the Forest. First Goldclaw, then Redtail and Honeyflower fell deathly ill. All three died of Blackcough. |
