Long Description :
Mara was a lithe, long-limbed she-cat with yellow-green eyes and a short white pelt. Her wedge-shaped head was accentuated with tall, narrowly pointed ears.

Personality
Mara was a bright, adaptable she-cat; she had to be, in order to survive. She had a soft voice, innate compassion, and a gentle wisdom. The semi-feral had a tendency towards contemplation when she was by herself, but around others she tried to attend to their needs and wishes. Mara never saw much purpose in railing against the current; that would only exhaust one's self and in the end, it made little difference. Thus the mild, optimistic cat accepted the course of events, and looked for the sunny side of life no matter the situation.

Mara was the opposite of the father of her kits in many ways. Her whole life had been spent outside; she had her share of hardships, and came out all the stronger and wiser for it. She wasn't envious of others, though she had no family, went hungry too often, and was a non-pedigree, semi-feral of little distinction.
However, something drew her to Andre, the courtly "Giant". It was not his impressive physique, for she had seen more muscled and much more skilled fighters in her days on the streets, nor was it his pristine coat, for she had come to associate such with the disdain of proud house cats. Rather, she was intrigued by his unique behavior; he was the most gentlemanly tom she had ever met, and - wonders of wonders - he seemed intrigued by her, the street cat! They shared the same intellect, quiet attentiveness, and unobtrusive manner. Mara was devastated. What self-worth she'd gained during the relationship was stripped away, leaving her shaken and shamed. She assumed her low status was bringing Andre down in the social ladder, and despite her best intentions, her pain was obvious. She never saw Andre again after that. In the Moon of First Green ('06), she bore two white tom-kits, whom she grew to love more than life itself. Mara unsurprisingly turned out to be a caring mother and an excellent teacher. She passed on her knowledge to her sons, Artic and Snow, as she reared them in an abandoned shed. She began to call Snow "Rouge" instead after he took a dunk into a bag of reddish soil when he was two moons old. Her biggest mistake, she felt, was telling Artic about his sire. The tom-kit, who had been born with an unfortunate combination of a deaf left ear and a rashness that frightened her to no end, rushed off in search immediately for "Andre the Giant". She bitterly regretted sharing the tale with him, and never forgave herself, as Artic never returned and no news of him ever came. When her remaining son, Rouge, was eight moons old, she fell prey to disease. Despite his administrations, she quickly deteriorated and was dead by the Moon of Long Nights (2006). She had never learned what had become of the three loves in her life: Andre, Artic, and the orphan Rouge. |
