A Spayed She-cat by Bucky out of KseniaBorn but not named in the Moon of Long Nights (2008)
Living at the age of 7 Moons (6 months)
Appearance

Short Description :
A stocky pointed she-cat with a kinked tail and blue eyes
Long Description :
Quake is on the small side, but stocky. There's a slight but permanent kink in her tail, a distinguishing mark she has no memory of receiving and, as far as she knows, has always had. Her soft tan fur shades to a deep, earthy dark brown at her face, paws, and tail. The darkness of the fur on her face makes her pale blue eyes stand out like points of light against a dark forest, and is indirectly the source of her name.
Personality

Quake is a lively, curious young cat who never stops asking 'why'. Well, almost never stops--sometimes, she's asleep. In any case, she generally wants to know everything she can, about everyone and everything, and her boundless curiosity leads her to frequently ignore boundaries and good sense. She also has a certain combination of youthful naivety, rampant imagination, and old-fashioned bloody-mindnedness that can make her troublesome when she's latched onto an idea. Beyond that, Quake is exceptionally gregarious; few things make her happier than meeting new cats and hearing new stories. She loves helping others as well, although her idea of what is 'helpful' may be...eccentric to some. As a creature almost always bursting with energy, and whose greatest aspiration is adventure, Quake has difficulty understanding that not everyone shares her interests.

Full History :
Quake remembers little of her earliest days. Born to an escaped housecat named Ksenia, her youngest memories are characterized by confusion, motion, and fear. Ksenia, for her part, had not meant to get separated from her humans; for reasons she could not understand, they one day began packing up all of their belongings and removing them from the house. When they tried to move her as well, nervous Ksenia broke and ran. By the time she calmed down, she found herself hopelessly lost. She sought shelter from other local strays and eventually found herself expecting kits.

Quake, however, knows none of this. The only liveborn kit of Ksenia's only litter, Quake's only real memories of her mother are of her blue eyes, her warmth--and her fear. It seemed to young Quake that they moved almost every night, fleeing some danger that may have only existed in Ksenia's mind. Some cats were not cut out to be strays, and Ksenia was one of them. So Quake's earliest days were a parade of sights and smells that faded quickly and were not seen or smelled again. Impermanence.

And then, one day, Ksenia left and did not come back. At the age of almost three moons, Quake was alone. And sick. And utterly inexperienced in living alone. She might have died out there if some kindly humans hadn't found her and nursed her back to health. At four moons she was adopted by a family living in the nearby town of Whiteheart. There was some argument among the family's two children over their new kitten's name; one wanted to call her Skye, for her blue eyes, while the other loudly insisted on 'a superhero name'. Eventually they compromised, and named her after a superhero who had also gone by Skye. The newly-dubbed Quake, who still only has the vaguest idea of what a 'superhero' even is, was nonetheless pleased about it.

A moon later, her kindhearted adopted family also took on a second cat, an ill-tempered 'problem cat' who needed care but aggressively rebuffed human attention. Quake's people, however, refused to be rebuffed. And so the grizzled former-feral who called himself Tigercoat came to live with Quake. Himself rescued from death by human attention, Tigercoat did not share her fondness of them; he recognized that he now depended on them for his survival, but met any attempts to engage him with hisses and retreat. Eventually they reached a sort of equilibrium. They would feed him their special food, and Tigercoat would deign to eat it, and in return they would ignore him at all other hours.

Quake, on the other hand, refused to ignore him. She found the old tom fascinating. At first he had been bitter and introverted, nursing some internal hurt, but he eventually softened towards the young cat. Quake always assumed that he just didn't have it in him to be cruel to a kit, even a tame one. Finally, he began talking, and Quake learned amazing things. He told her tales of noble warrior cats who dwell in the forest beyond the fences. He painted pictures of great wars, heartwrenching deaths. He spoke--with a dreamy, distant sorrow--of loyalty and honor and a Code. Quake had never heard anything like this before; Clan life seemed so much more vivid and interesting than anything domestic life had to offer. She began needling Tigercoat for more stories and details. Her curiosity was insatiable. For his part, Tigercoat was an old cat by Clan standards, swollen with scars and regret, lonely for a home he should never have left. Speaking to this vivacious young cat was the only way he had of reliving his days in his true home, and he was glad for it. For her part, Quake has only grown ever more determined to learn all she can about these Clans, and maybe even--against Tigercoat's repeated warnings--meet one.
