Physical Description: Southern red-backed voles are small tan-furred rodents with round bodies, white undersides and reddish to gray-brown backs.

Behavior: Southern red-backed voles are more active at dusk, night, and dawn, but in winter they are often active during the day; they eat chiefly nuts, seeds, and berries.
