Cat Given Name: Blackbird
Common Name(s): Bobolink,  Red-winged Blackbird
Other Name(s): Vacher à tête brune,  Tordo negro
Scientific Name(s): Dolichonyx oryzivorus,  Molothrus ater
Physical Description: The male Red-winged Blackbird is a glossy black bird with red and yellow wings. The female is a streaky, dull brown. It is a stocky bird with broad shoulders. It's tail is of a medium length, and it's beak is slender and conical.
Physical Statistics: Length: 6.7 – 9.1 Inches (17 – 23 Centimeters)
Weight: 1.1 – 2.7 Ounces (32 – 77 Grams)
Wingspan: 12.2 – 15.7 Inches (31 – 40 Centimeters)
Behavior: The Red-winged Blackbird spends most of it's time in marshes, but also will live on fields, and occasionally in forests along bodies of water. It eats primarily insects. The males spend most of their time in trees, singing, while the females slink through the underbrush. They both defend their nests from intruders. They are good fliers.
Social Organization: Flock; the Red-winged Blackbird lives in loose groups with usually 5 or more females to each male.
Approval Level*: None; The Red-winged Blackbird is perhaps the most common bird in all of North America.
Kill Difficulty: Moderate; Both the male and female Red-winged Blackbird defend their territory fiercely, and may attack predators many times larger than themselves.
Hunting Difficulty: Specialty - Group Flying; The male Red-winged Blackbird sits in trees for a large portion of the day, and sees predators approaching, so care must be taken not to be detected. Partners make hunting easier, as the birds will mob hunters when threatened.
Food Quality: Medium; The flesh of the Red-winged Blackbird is rich and nutritious, and most are well able to provide a day's food for a single cat.
*Some creatures require approval to appear in RP. This is to make sure the Admins and Mods who need to know are fully aware of a species currently active in their area.
These ratings are mainly for those creatures that are uncommon or pose a threat of some sort to the cats.
