This PSA was originally made on Fri Apr 27, 2007 1:30 pm at the old site. It was followed up on 5 August 2008 with information focused on the new website.

Announcement

COPPA is the Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998. It states that any user under the age of 13 must have verifiable permission to be on a website.

By asking "Are you over or exactly 13 years of age" CoSC is COPPA Compliant. But this also means that the SECOND we notice you announcing yourself to be another age, we must take action.

If you are under 13, and do not wish to be in violation of COPPA, please contact me for a mailing address, have your parents provide a document stating the following (That is SIGNED and NOTARIZED) and mail it to that address.

"I [parents name] give permission for my child, who is to be identified on http://cosc.kitsufox.com as [username] and will sign up using [emailaddy] as their electronic mail address, to become a member of this site."

Followup

While we no longer ask on signup if users are overage, CoSC is still a COPPA Compliant site in that we never knowingly collect information from a user under the age of 13. In accordance we will still remove any user revealed to be less than that age.
