A Tom by Longshadows out of BrookstoneBorn Sablekit in the Moon of the Killingcough (2007)
Living at the age of 27 Moons (2 years & 1 month)
Appearance

Short Description :
A solidly built sable tom with a white locket on his chest and amber eyes
Long Description :
Otterpelt’s eyes are an amber hue, a mixture of yellow and brown. He has short fur of a lustrous sable brown, with a small white patch on his chest. His fur is very dense, and it is not as soft as it looks, being on the courser side. It’s sheen is reminiscent of all RiverClan cats who eat fish from the river. His whiskers are very long and white; the shafts being thick and almost pin straight, with only a slight curve towards the ends. Otterpelt is of an average height for toms, sleek of frame with rippling muscles under his pelt. He has more muscle mass in the front from exercise in the water, so even though his hind muscles are powerful enough to spring with ease, he looks a little slimmer of waist. Having built up the muscles on his chest and front legs from swimming and catching fish, means that he has exceptional offensive strength when facing an adversary head on. Although not the largest cat, he has above average success in wrestling his opponents to the ground, much like he does with wriggly, slippery fish. He can pack a powerful punch with his front paws. Otterpelt is not a speedy cat, but he is flexible with average agility.
Personality

Otterpelt is very loyal, and willing to serve his Clan and Leader in anything that is asked of him. Young in seasons, his energy is barely contained, although he works hard to focus it into work and his care for his Clanmates. Otterpelt has a personal code of conduct that he tries hard to adhere to so that he may be the best clan cat he can be. He is mindful of other's moods around him, and tries not to consciously tread on too many toes.

He spends a lot of time near the river, if not in the water, then fishing on the banks. During the warm moons (from mid-spring to early-fall), he can be found wading in the shallows of the river, or else taking a quick swim from one bank to the other and back almost every day. When the fish are plentiful in the water, Otterpelt’s hunting is focused primarily on fishing. In the winter months, when he is restricted to catching land-bound prey, his catches tend to be significantly lower.

A naturally hard-working, eager to please tom, the winter months can be hard on his psyche, as he feels like he is not contributing enough to the Clan, despite his hard efforts. He’s not one to voice his feelings out loud, and tends to hide things that trouble him in humor and wit. So long as he feels like he is helping and being an asset to the Clan, he is agreeable and generally laid-back. In the late-fall and winter months is when he starts to get a little edgy. A trait from his father’s side, he feels like his back is to the wall, Otterpelt will get defensive about his actions and beliefs. Letting go of something is not easy for him to do, and he does so grudgingly. After the initial cool down, if he believes himself to have made a mistake, he is not afraid to apologize to those he believes he offended- something that his father was not good at doing.

If you asked Otterpelt what he feels about the other Clans and Rogues, he would tell you a number of things, all made up from a rather colorful bunch of words. He finds insults to be interesting, and will try out his own verbal concoctions on other cats.

New environments and scenarios are another curiosity to him. He does not try to immediately disregard something different then what he is used to, preferring to hold his judgement on something until he has evidence to give him a cause of action. As such, immediate reactions to things may be defensive, but will rarely ever be offensive.
History

Key Dates
Full History :
Otterpelt was born during the Moon of The Killingcough (2007) to Longshadows and Brookstone. What the reason for his birth was is unknown, whether it was out of the need of procreation, lust, or an actual fondness, is known only by StarClan and the two involved. They never said, and nobody ever asked.

One of the most vocal of the kits in the nursery, Sablekit, as he was known then, was easily labeled as among the rowdiest of the kits born that season. Some older cats who knew his father said that his son could probably give him a run for his prey when Sablekit got older.

Woe betide the moment he learned how to walk. Attempted escapes from the nursery were not uncommon for this kit, although his mother tried very hard to keep both eyes on him, although she had plenty of help. The simple truth was that Sablekit had an unnatural amount of energy that the cozy, underground nursery just could not contain. Having been born in early spring meant change was moving fast on the air, even finding its way underground. Wanting to know everything and every little detail, bits of moss, duck feathers, broken egg shells and round river pebbles brought to him by his mother was just enough to keep him from trying to escape from camp all together. However, that mutual agreement could not hold forever.

Sablekit became Sablepaw during his sixth moon. Letting him go out and experience the territory, and get his paws buried in some practical work would help put his energy to good use. But he would need someone patient, who could steer all his energy in the right direction.

After moons of hard training, Sablepaw had been shaped into a better cat. His curiosity and energy was his drive to excel and help his Clan, although not without some scrapes and bumps along the way.

One hunting session had brought Sablepaw to the nest of a pair of ducks. Having a pair of big and angry waterfowl on his tail, he escaped with his fur still intact, but not before crossing paths with the rest of his hunting party and creating general chaos.

Half way through training, during the Moon of Tiger's Wrath (2008), Sablepaw's father died from a repeated bout of Greencough. Although not close to his father, Sablepaw sat vigil that night out of respect and helped bury him in the morning.

All in all his training was mostly as normal as every other apprentices, and it was during the later moons that he learned of his love for the water, and his knack for fishing. Even for RiverClan cats, his obsession with water was strange. However, fishing taught him a lot about patience, and eventually Clanwork became the anchor that kept him from floating off among the clouds.

The day for his final assessments drew nearer. He passed the other two assessments with a passing grade, but it was his Hunting Assessment that he left his mark in. Along with the other apprentices in training, he was taken out into the territory where the rules were explained to him. The assessment was simple: hunt for the Clan while the mentors tracked and watched to see how each apprentice did.

The route given to him connected to the river, so after taking down a watervole and burying it to return later for it, he found himself at the riverbanks. He spent the rest of his assessment fishing for the largest fish he could find. He got his wish, because Sablepaw was proud to come back to camp that day with a large perch dragging across the ground, clamped tightly in his jaws.

It was at his Warrior Ceremony that he was given his final name, Otterpelt, changed to reflect his fishing prowess. Otterpelt was more than willing to sit still and silent for his vigil all through the night, not daring to move a muscle.

When the Otter struck RiverClan, Otterpelt was forced, out of self-preservation, from the waters. As practiced of a swimmer he was, he was no match for the predator, and he knew it. His hunting was limited strictly to land, although whenever he strayed too close to the banks, he felt the urge in his paws to risk the exposure. However, the death of one of his Clanmates, and then his leader, was enough to ground his paws for good. Both of those cats were good, strong warriors; if they stood no chance, neither would he. Even after the otter had been dealt with, Otterpelt avoided the waters until it was too cold to even think about entering the icy river. He would have to wait until the snow thawed and the air got warmer again.

During the Moon of Leopard's Rest (2008), his mother came down with Greencough. Close to his mother, Otterpelt hunted hard to catch enough prey for her and the Clan. During this time, he became restless and easily irritated. Over driven by the need to try and hunt his mother back to life (more food = better health), and frustrated in the mediocre land hunting skills he had, he blamed himself partially when she succumbed to her illness before the turning of the next moon.

Shocked by the loss of both parents by the disease, he has been more withdrawn since then. With less bounce in his mannerisms, Otterpelt mourns the loss of his mother in private, still working hard to feed and protect his Clan, but with not as much conviction.
