Personality

A thoughtful, sweet-tempered tom, Rigel rarely raises his voice. The one thing that sparks his passion is if he is questioned about the galaxy, under which circumstance he will go into an oration about the heavens above.

Full History :

Rigel was sold to an astronomer after being found unfit for showing and breeding, and has lived with her ever since. From his owner he acquired knowledge about the placement of stars, as well as other celestial bodies, and their pertinent mythologies.

Rigel’s owner is happy to let him out whenever he wishes, and every clear night the tom steps outside to stargaze. It was on one of these nights that he met the semi-feral she-cat, Maria Isabel. Concerned for the limping, ill, lost she-cat, Rigel offered to help her, and the semi-feral consented.

Rigel’s owner was startled to find her Singapura cat accompanied by a she-cat on her doorstep, but she brought Maria Isabel in and nursed her back to health. Rigel became quite taken with her and though it took her a while to open up, eventually Maria Isabel too fell in love. When Maria Isabel discovered that she was heavy with his kits, she could not hide her distress from Rigel; she did not feel ready to be a mother. However, Rigel comforted the she-cat, and promised to not let anything bad happen to her or their children. Two tom-kits and one she-kit, all healthy, were soon born to the parents. Rigel and Maria Isabel decided to name the two tom-kits Alnitak and Alnilam, and their youngest, the she-kit, Mintaka. Rigel’s owner declined to name the litter, for, unbeknown to the new parents, the astronomer had already decided to give away the three kittens.

When the kits were six weeks old, Rigel’s owner attempted to separate them from the mother. While she managed to capture Alnilam, Maria Isabel put up a tremendous fight and narrowly escaped with her remaining two offspring out an open window. Rigel stayed behind to hold off his owner for as long as he could, even resorting to scratching her on the leg. It pained him to go against the person who had cared for and taught him, but he desired above all else the safety of his mate and children.

Rigel’s owner was badly shaken by the sudden change of behavior in her dearly loved housecat, and once she had sold Alnilam, she had Rigel neutered shortly thereafter, wanting to avoid any similar incident with a wild she-cat in the future. However, she continued to allow Rigel outside.

Soon after Maria Isabel's flight, Rigel made a few attempts to find his mate, sons, and daughter. But they were, as he suspected, long gone. Besides, Rigel could not bear the thought of leaving his owner forever, despite the love he still feels for Maria Isabel and the kits. Nowadays, the Singapura never ventures far from his owner's home, but will occasionally linger outside under the night sky in the distant hope that he might one day see his family again.
