Today has featured mostly maintain and the beginnings of the transition to the new forum on the site. We also updated the MediaWiki software to a newer version, but one that still supports the old forum. As we continue to advance the software of the main site the forum will become less and less stable. Additionally, the Social Profile software has been added back in so that we have avatars on the forum and the board-to-board system of messages that can be used either publicly or privately.

So we're on our way to the future of the game!

The overall plan will have us keeping the old software for the archives for as long as we possibly can, but I don't expect the risk the software until everyone is well-settled on the new forum. It should be noted that at this point I'm having some issues with the forum not reporting to recent changes, or really anywhere, so short of looking by hand it's not being nice about showing updates yet...

Just updated the forum software to the latest version because indications suggested that we could use the latest forum with the current version of MediaWiki that we're running. If this post shows up in recent changes I'll be getting what I wanted (and certainly the use of the visual editor tool is nice for new posts, so that's a big thing).

LATER - Updated the Staff Info templates to make a few changes.

  • Added an output message for no messenger services being configured, since it looked like an error when it wasn't there.
  • Made the column for the messengers slightly wider so it looked better on smaller screens.
  • Made is possible to turn off the "email" contact option for cases in which the staffer wants to keep all CoSC communication on the site.
  • Switched out the link to AWC PMs for the new Board links. This gets the staff page ready for when AWC stops working.

The import to the new forum is completed. All topics that are coming over at this time have been moved over. Stay tuned for further updates!

Yesterday I got reasonably caught up on player relationships and weeded out a lot of older accounts into the idle lists that I feel like we don't really have hope for at this time. Player management should be running on a more normal schedule now.

This morning I went through and did some of the pending NPCs, which I haven't done in ages, either.

I did some random fiddling yesterday, but nothing major. I do want to say congratulations to Nagini, who was the first user who wasn't me to post on the new forum! (while it looks like there have been others, those were me importing active threads from the old forum).

Today, however, I have a decent start on getting some interesting things done. Specifically I've been playing around with improving some looks on the forms for character creation. They're not major, just some readability and layout tweaks.

I've also fiddled with the template for herbs to fix one of the columns being too narrow and the seasonal markers getting split into two rows. And I revamped the herbal index to use the new tabs instead of the old ones. And I have it the information index sidebar... But I think I'll actually be revamping it to have a guides sidebar... And maybe echoing the herbal location info into the individual clan pages, just to make it that much quickly to get the info a person wants when RPing. Might have to do that for local prey, too. Seems super handy and informative.

Today was all about finishing up player relations stuff, so that the lists of player accounts that are active are more up to date. Then players will have the month of March to get active and then we're holding an activity check some April.

I've also been rooting around and playing with the hard-code. I've added a "who's here", that while not as detailed as the one already installed in the old forum and will last beyond when we decommission the old AWC Forum. I've been working on some tweaks to forms and templates, so some areas of the site continue to improve in look, and they're projects that will be ongoing for a bit. I hope to get to adding territory descriptions tomorrow for Clanless, CoC, and CC, and finishing the Clanless Cats group page (I can't use the standard template since they're not a true group, but am making a custom page. The Current Live Version is getting to where it needs to be, but is completely usable).

GENERAL UPDATES

Today was the day of the Timeline advancement. This means all characters were automatically ages by a moon, and we've changed from the Moon of Running Prey to the Moon of Long Sun. The pages have all been updated so all age listings should be completely accurate. There will be updates for the bans lists coming shortly.

PID Update

On and off while I was distracted during the week I've been sending out gifts from the gift system for all of the Project Information Drive contributions ever submitted. I just finished today and put the graphics together for the system. From here on out on the wrap of any of the PID projects the various awards earned will be handed out to various players.
