Physical Description: A medium sized duck with a white head and neck. There is a gray patch around the eyes on the males. There is a large black spot extending from cheek down sides of the neck. There is also a black band across the breast. Their back is black and they have long, gray upper back feathers. Their very long tail is black. Their eyes are yellow-brown.

Behavior: Long-Tailed Ducks live in lakes and ponds. They nest on the ground dive to feed. They pass through the forest during their winter and spring migrations.
Social Organization: Long-Tailed Ducks live in large flocks.
Approval Level*: Moderator; Long-Tailed Ducks are rare in the forest due to lack of lakes and ponds, and also because they pass through during their migrations.
Kill Difficulty: Moderate; A Long-Tailed Duck can do serious damage to a cat with it's wing.
