Physical Description: A sleek and large, cylindrical bodied waterbird with a mid-length neck and a broad, shoveling beak. The female mallard is mottled brown and an orange beak. The male has a green head and a yellow beak. The male's chest and back are dark brown, and the wings and sides are white.

Behavior: Mallards live in marshes, and lay their eggs on beds of reeds. To get their food, they put their head into the water and feed. They are active during the day. During the spring and fall they migrate south. During winter they are missing completely from the forest.
