Physical Description: Wood Ducks have a crest perched on the back of the head. The male Wood Duck iridescent feathers and a green head with a orange beak with a splash of white at the end. Their is white on their head. The female is dark gray. The non-breeding plumage is dark brown.

Behavior: Wood ducks prefer ponds, rivers and wetland areas. They are active during the day, seeking their food by dabbling. The females nest in the cavities of trees during the summer.
Social Organization: Flock; Wood Ducks live in groups and migrate south during the winter.
Approval Level*: Moderator; Wood Ducks are uncommon in the first, but are sometimes seen in summer on the river.
Kill Difficulty: Moderate; Wood Ducks are large enough to deliver a firm buffet with the wings.
Hunting Difficulty: Specialty - Duck; Ambush from the shore is the best tactic for dealing with Wood Ducks. They will let out an alarm cry that will send prey hiding if an attempt is missed.
Food Quality: High; Wood Ducks are large and yield a rich, nutritious flesh.
