Horsetail
Cat Given Name:
Horsetail
Common Name:
Horsetail
Other Name(s):
Description:
Horsetail does not flower. It is a perennial with dark green, hollow stems and shoots, resembling asparagus in the beginning. As the plant dries, crystals form into stems and branches that looked like feathery tails, giving the plant its name. Each segment is a quarter to half inch long.
Properties:
When consumed, the juice found inside the stem can be used to ease the gut and lessen coughs. When applied outwardly, the same liquid reduces inflammation and swelling. As it must be used fresh it makes a fine summer alternative to herbs that can be stored.
